PARIS, July 20 (APP): Belgian cyclist Remco Evenepoel claimed victory in Stage 15 of the Tour de France.
Defending champion Tadej Pogačar has already secured four stage wins in this year’s race. Earlier, he took an impressive victory in Stage 6, strengthening his bid for a record fifth Tour de France title and reclaiming the coveted yellow jersey, which he continues to hold.
According to the BBC, the 113th edition of the Tour de France began in Barcelona, Spain, with 23 of the world’s top cycling teams competing for the prestigious title.
Stage 15 covered a mountainous 183.9-kilometre route from Champagnole to Plateau de Solaison in France. The 26-year-old Belgian rider Remco Evenepoel delivered an outstanding performance, completing the distance in 4 hours, 23 minutes, and 9 seconds to take first place.
The 27-year-old Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogačar, riding for UAE Team Emirates XRG, finished second, while 22-year-old Mexican rider Isaac del Toro claimed third place.
Pogačar had regained the yellow jersey after winning Stage 6 and has retained the race lead ever since.
The Tour de France consists of 21 stages, with riders covering a total distance of 3,320.7 kilometres. A total of 23 teams are competing for the title.
The race will conclude on July 26 after 24 days of competition. Pogačar, representing UAE Team Emirates XRG, is aiming to successfully defend his Tour de France crown.
The inaugural Tour de France was held in 1903, and was won by French cyclist Maurice Garin.
