Baby Finn’s Tragic Death Saved Three Lives Through Organ Donation

Posted on June 18, 2026

On August 22, 2018, our lives changed forever when we welcomed our beautiful son, Finn Benton Pope, into the world. He was a perfect 7 pounds 8 ounces, and from the moment I held him, I knew my heart was full. I had never truly understood the depths of love until that moment. Despite growing up unsure about religion, I found myself at peace, knowing that the perfection I was holding in my arms could only be explained by a higher power. Finn’s arrival was a blessing beyond words.

As we adjusted to parenthood, Austin and I dreamed of everything Finn would experience in life – his first baseball game, his graduations, his wedding day, and more. Finn made it all look easy. He was the happiest baby, constantly smiling, laughing, and enjoying the little things like bathtime and playing with our family dog. He loved to eat, and his giggles when trying new foods were infectious. Our home was filled with love, joy, and laughter.

However, just days before his first birthday, something went terribly wrong. One night, Finn woke up crying uncontrollably, and though we thought it was just teething, the situation quickly escalated. After a visit to the pediatrician and a few hours of trying to comfort him, I realized something was terribly wrong. Finn was limp in my arms, and my heart began to race with fear. We rushed to the ER, and what happened next would change everything.

In the hospital, doctors confirmed the unthinkable: Finn had suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm. His condition was grave, and the prognosis was not good. I was in disbelief, trying to understand how this could happen to our perfect little boy. The doctors told us that Finn’s chances of survival were slim, and they couldn’t promise us much. I refused to believe that this would be the end. We prayed, we cried, and we hoped with all our hearts that Finn would pull through.

But as the days passed, the reality of the situation began to set in. Despite our best efforts, Finn’s condition worsened, and we were forced to make the hardest decision any parent could face. His brain had been starved of oxygen, and his future was uncertain. The doctors told us that Finn’s chances of surviving were slim, but we held onto hope, never letting go of the love and strength we had for him.

In the end, after a heroic battle, Finn passed away, and our hearts shattered. The love we shared with him, the moments we spent together, and the dreams we had for his future came to an abrupt and painful end. But in the midst of our heartbreak, a miracle happened. Finn’s story didn’t end with his passing. In his final moments, Finn gave life to others.

His organs were donated to those in need, and his heart saved an 11-month-old baby girl, his liver went to an 11-month-old boy, and his kidneys helped a woman in her 40s. In his death, Finn’s legacy lived on in the lives of others. His impact, though short-lived, will never be forgotten. His love and spirit continue to guide us as we move forward.

After Finn’s passing, I found myself struggling to find my place in the world again. I never imagined I would be a widow at 30, but the love and support from family, friends, and even strangers helped me heal. Through my grief, I found strength, and that strength led me to a place I never thought I’d reach – a place of healing and hope.

Two months after losing Finn, Austin and I discovered that we were expecting again. A new baby. A gift from Finn, we believed. Our baby girl, Finley Blake, is due to arrive soon, and while nothing can replace Finn, we know that his spirit will be with us every step of the way.

This journey has been one of unimaginable heartbreak and profound love. We have learned that life doesn’t always go as planned, and the road ahead is filled with unknowns. But through it all, we know that Finn’s legacy lives on. His life, though short, was filled with love, and that love continues to inspire us every day.

As we navigate life without Finn, we carry his memory with us. We raise money for causes that were close to his heart, and we share his story to inspire others to live each day to the fullest. Finn’s life was a reminder that no matter how brief our time may be, it’s the love we share and the lives we touch that matter most.
