Turkey has linked its potential participation in the Abraham Accords to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
In Ankara, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that a just resolution of the Palestine issue is essential for lasting peace in the Middle East. He said that Turkey could consider joining a regional framework if Israel recognizes an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders.
Fidan also proposed the creation of a regional platform involving Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Gulf countries, suggesting that Iran could also join the proposed forum once conditions in the region stabilize after the end of ongoing tensions.
He emphasized that all countries in the region must respect each other’s sovereignty and security.
Meanwhile, former US President Donald Trump had recently urged several Muslim-majority countries, including Turkey, to join the Abraham Accords.
