Lazare, considered the world’s oldest Papillon breed dog, passed away in France at the age of 30. He died on the evening of May 14 at his new home.
Lazare was born on December 4, 1995, and spent his entire life with his first owner. However, after his owner passed away, he was transferred to an animal shelter.
Twenty-nine-year-old Ophélie Baudouin took Lazare into her home last month and began caring for him, but only a few days later, Lazare died at the house.
According to media reports, due to old age, Lazare could neither hear nor see and spent most of his time sleeping.
Animal welfare worker Anne-Sophie Moyens said Lazare’s age had been verified through two registries.
Previously, a Portuguese dog named “Bobi” had been declared the world’s oldest dog at the age of 31, although doubts were later raised about that record.
