American pop superstar Taylor Swift and American football star Travis Kelce have tied the knot in a wedding ceremony held at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Taylor Swift’s publicist, Tree Paine, confirmed the news to the BBC.
Shortly after the wedding, signs reading “JUST & T MARRIED” began appearing across New York City, including around Madison Square Garden.
Throughout the day, large crowds of fans gathered outside the venue in the hope of catching a glimpse of the guests and offering their congratulations to the newlyweds.
The wedding celebrations began on Thursday at Madison Square Garden. According to media reports, Thursday night’s event served as a pre-wedding party or rehearsal dinner ahead of the official ceremony.
Despite the intense summer heat in New York, a large police presence remained on-site to maintain security, while journalists and camera crews waited for any sign of what was happening inside the arena.
Reports suggested that as many as 1,000 guests were expected to attend the wedding.
Taylor Swift fans continued to gather outside Madison Square Garden even though New York City’s mayor had repeatedly urged residents to stay indoors as temperatures climbed above 37°C (99°F).
One fan, Ryan Wing, said he had come to witness the wedding.
“I’ve loved her for 15 years, so this will be one of the greatest experiences of my life.”
Another fan, Rusty Carbeg, said:
“I feel like Taylor has completely transformed my taste in music.”
With a combined fortune estimated at $2.2 billion and enormous influence across music, sports, film, podcasting, and television, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are now regarded as one of America’s most influential married couples.
A Fairytale for Swifties
For Swifties—Taylor Swift’s devoted fanbase—the wedding feels like something straight out of a fairytale.
The couple’s story began in 2023, when Travis Kelce attended one of Taylor Swift’s concerts.
Later, on his podcast, Kelce revealed that he had initially tried to meet Taylor but wasn’t successful.
A month later, he explained:
“At Taylor Swift concerts, people exchange friendship bracelets. I got a lot of bracelets there, but I wanted to give Taylor one with my phone number on it. Unfortunately, I never got the chance.”
That podcast clip quickly went viral and eventually caught Taylor Swift’s attention.
Taylor later recalled:
“It honestly felt like he was standing outside my apartment saying, ‘I’d like to take you on a date.'”
Following the podcast, many people encouraged Taylor to give Travis a chance.
In September 2023, Taylor was spotted attending a Kansas City Chiefs game alongside Travis’s mother, cheering for the NFL team.
The couple left the stadium together afterward.
Fans were surprised because Taylor has traditionally been very private about her personal life, and many viewed the appearance as her way of publicly confirming the relationship.
Two months later, Travis attended Taylor’s concert in Argentina. When the show ended, Taylor ran into his arms and kissed him in front of cheering fans.
Throughout 2024, Taylor was frequently seen attending Travis’s football games.
In June 2024, the couple officially made their relationship Instagram public by sharing a backstage photo taken during Taylor’s London concert. The picture featured the couple alongside Prince William and his two eldest children.
The following evening, Travis made his stage debut as one of Taylor’s performers. He carried the singer onto a couch on stage, where she changed outfits before performing her next song.
After that, Travis continued to accompany Taylor on several stops of her European concert tour.
The Engagement and the Multi-Million-Dollar Ring
Last year, Taylor Swift announced her engagement to Travis Kelce by sharing a series of photos on Instagram.
The caption read:
“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
One of the photos prominently featured her engagement ring.
According to reports, Kelce collaborated with a jeweler to design the ring, choosing a vintage-inspired style that complements Swift’s romantic aesthetic, also reflected in her album The Life of a Show Girl.
Ruth Faulkner, Managing Editor of Retail Jeweller magazine, said industry experts estimate the ring’s value to be between PKR 190 million and PKR 1.5 billion.
The diamond is believed to be an 8- to 10-carat antique stone, which Faulkner described as exceptionally rare.
Jewelry journalist Rachel Taylor noted that the diamond’s soft glow likely comes from being hand-cut rather than machine-cut, a hallmark of antique gemstones.
She added that the ring features vintage-inspired cuts and a large center stone that perfectly matches Swift’s signature romantic style.
