Hollywood legend Will Smith has said that even if a person possesses everything in the world, true happiness cannot be achieved because happiness is an inner state, not something that comes from material possessions.
Speaking on a recent podcast, Will Smith said that the $350 million net worth attributed to him in Google listings means very little. He explained that even if someone could buy everything in the world, none of it would be enough to make them truly happy.
The podcast host asked whether a quick Google search claiming his net worth is $350,000,000 was accurate. In response, the actor said he does not debate such figures because, ultimately, they are irrelevant to happiness.
He explained that once you have bought everything you have ever wanted—and there is virtually nothing left on Earth that you haven’t purchased—you eventually realize that none of it brings lasting satisfaction. He compared the pursuit of material wealth to drinking salt water: the more you drink, the thirstier you become.
Will Smith added that it can be a frightening realization when you discover that no relationship, no amount of money, and no material possession can truly make you happy. According to him, happiness is non-material; it comes from within and is connected to the soul, not to wealth or other worldly possessions.
