Dogs are often called man’s best friend, known for their loyalty and companionship. But what happens when a dog accidentally shoots its owner?
An unusual incident took place in the United States involving a man named Tex Harold Galligan and his three dogs.
Tex was heading out on a hunting trip in the deserts of New Mexico with his dogs when a shocking accident occurred. One of his dogs, Charlie, a 120-pound canine sitting in the front seat of the vehicle, accidentally stepped on the trigger of a loaded gun.
The gun discharged unexpectedly, and the bullet struck Tex. The injury was severe.
Speaking to American media, Tex explained, “The bullet went through my ribs and lung and exited through my right shoulder, leaving a huge hole.”
Despite the pain and shock, Tex managed to call 911 for emergency assistance. He was quickly transported to a hospital, where doctors treated his injuries.
According to local police, the accident left Tex with three broken ribs and damage to one of his lungs.
Surprisingly, even while seriously injured, Tex’s biggest concern was not himself—it was his dogs. After the incident, all three dogs were temporarily taken to an animal shelter. However, Tex insisted that they be released, saying he did not want them kept in what he jokingly called a “dog jail.”
Initially, Tex told authorities that he had accidentally shot himself. Later, he admitted that Charlie had unintentionally pulled the trigger.
Despite everything that happened, Tex refused to blame his beloved pet.
“Charlie didn’t mean to do it,” he said. “He’s a good dog.”
The bizarre accident serves as a reminder of the importance of firearm safety, while also highlighting the remarkable bond between a man and his dog—a bond that remained unbroken even after an accidental gunshot.
