At the time of the shocking incident, Oz Pearlman was performing a trick in which he was attempting to guess the name of Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt’s unborn child.
Oz Pearlman is a 43-year-old American performer famous worldwide for mind-reading and astonishing mental feats. He gained prominence in 2015 after securing third place on the popular talent show “America’s Got Talent,” and has since performed for major organizations, athletes, and television networks.
He has also won an Emmy Award and has appeared on several well-known talk shows.
His selection for this year’s event broke tradition, as the dinner features a comedian who roasts the president and journalists. However, due to tensions with the Trump administration, a magician was invited instead of a comedian this time.
In a column before the event, Oz Pearlman wrote that preparing for such a big day was not easy for him. He proudly stated that 30 years of practicing mind-reading had been leading up to this very moment—performing in front of one of the most powerful figures in the world, President Trump.
He said that if there was one person in the world whose mind he would want to read, it would be Donald Trump, because no one has ever been able to predict what the president might say or think next.
Oz Pearlman described Trump as a puzzle he had always dreamed of solving.
He also clarified that his intention was not to insult anyone or make political remarks, but rather to unite people through a sense of wonder and entertainment.
He added that he understood he was not hired to embarrass anyone or divide people, but to provide entertainment for all.
He revealed that when he was booked for the event in January, he was surprised, as he believed comedians were always invited to this dinner. Later, he learned that a comedian was deliberately not invited this year so that President Trump would attend, as he had not appreciated comedians’ criticism in the past.
Oz Pearlman’s goal was achieved, and President Trump did attend the event—but unfortunately, those magical moments were cut short by the sound of gunfire.
