This conclusion is based on the scientific analysis of dog bones discovered in the US state of Alaska and other archaeological sites. Findings suggest that during this period, dogs had already begun relying on humans for food and survival.
Researchers from the University of Arizona state that the relationship between Native American populations and dogs is far older than previously believed. A research paper published in the journal Science Advances, based on archaeological evidence from Alaskan sites, confirms that human–dog companionship stretches back thousands of years.
Assistant Professor François Lanoë of the University of Arizona noted that throughout history, dogs have remained closely connected with humans, actively supporting them in survival and food-gathering activities. The new research challenges earlier assumptions and reveals evidence from several regions showing that dogs have lived alongside humans since the earliest stages of human society.
