Egypt Approves Export of Donkeys to China and Dogs to Korea

Posted on February 11, 2026

Egyptian authorities have granted permission to export 10,000 donkeys to China. Additionally, approval is being considered for exporting dogs to Korea.

According to Dr. Ibrahim Mahrous, head of the General Authority for Veterinary Services under the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture, the agreement allows the export of donkeys to China. Mahrous further stated that the export of donkeys will comply with Al-Azhar’s fatwa, which stipulates that the donkeys will not be slaughtered, especially since China is interested only in their hides, not their meat.

Meanwhile, a Korean company has offered to import dogs from Egypt, and discussions with authorities are ongoing to approve this. The purpose of this proposal is to curb the spread of stray dogs. Animal welfare organizations had previously refused to euthanize these dogs using strychnine poison.
